Beechlawn is an inter-denominational school, which means we respect and honour all faiths and belief systems. The schemes of work taught and the general ethos of the school respect and reflect this.

Whilst being closely linked with the Citizenship and P.D.M.U, (Personal Development and Mutual Understanding) schemes of work, the general thrust of the Religious Education provided at Beechlawn aims to empower our students. We want our young people to be strengthened and supported in the belief system already present in their lives, to become good citizens who have a moral sense of what is right and wrong and to be enabled to make informed and responsible choices and decisions throughout their lives.

All of the year groups cover various topics individually, but this is also carefully interwoven with the main religious events that occur throughout the year, such as Christmas and Easter etc. However I feel it is important to provide you with a general overview of the work covered within each year group.

In Key Stage Two the main themes are 'Growing Up, Living By God's Rules! Creation & Fall, The Life Of Jesus, The Bible As A Book, The Spread Of The Gospel and Famous 20th Century Christians'

In Year 8, 'Baptism, The Childhood Of Jesus, The Lord's Prayer, The World I Live In and My Family'

In Year 9, 'Covenant, Creation, Decisions, Martin Luther King, The Bible and The Fall Of Man'

In Year 10, 'The Church Begins & Grows, Types Of Prayer, Rights & Responsibilities and The Early Church'

In Year 11, 'Helen Keller, Mother Teresa, Gladys Alyward, Corrie Ten Boom and The Challenge Of Jesus'

In Year 12, 'Respect For Self And Others, World Religions, Martin Luther King and Tale Of Two Worlds-Islam'

The Scripture Union Organisation is a good help and support to us at Beechlawn. They often come into school, to give talks etc to the pupils and help promote faith, belief and love and respect for others in our school and the wider community.
