KS3 Numeracy Beechlawn School is committed to raising the standards of numeracy of all of its students, so that they develop the ability to use numeracy skills effectively in all areas of the curriculum and the skills necessary to cope confidently with the demands of further education, employment and adult life. Numeracy in Key Stage 3 keeps pace with each child's ability. In line with the Northern Ireland Curriculum all aspects of mathematics are covered and lessons are geared towards each pupil's ability. Number, processes, Measure, Shape and Space and Handling data are all covered each year. Numeracy lessons in Beechlawn are carefully planned to ensure pupils are engaged and working at their own level using a multi-sensory approach. This involves the use of visual apparatus such as number lines/squares, multibase equipment to help pupil's access learning and interactive computer games and board games to reinforce learning. We have a superbly resourced Lifeskills room where pupils have the opportunity to use and develop their numeracy skills in everyday situations such as going to the Bank, Post Office, Café and shopping. World Maths Day is also celebrated in Beechlawn with many fun games and activities, this year it was on 6th March.
