The study and practice of Art and Design helps us to make sense of the world around us.
 
At Beechlawn School pupils are developing their Art and Design knowledge, understanding and skills.
 
At Key Stage 3 pupils are given the opportunity to;
• research, gather and interpret information from direct experiences, observations, memory, imagination and a range of traditional and digital sources;
• develop an appreciation of the work of artists, designers and craft workers from their own and other cultures, past and present;
• develop creative thinking skills and personal creative outcomes through investigating, realising, designing and making;
-         drawing and graphic media,
-         printmaking,
-         textiles,
-         ceramics,
-         3-dimensional construction or prototyping,
-         lens based and digital media;
• use the visual elements with understanding when engaging in art and design;
• evaluate and appreciate their own and others' work through discussion and reflection.
 
At Key Stage 4 pupils are given the opportunity to demonstrate a deeper understanding of their knowledge and skills. They are encouraged to become more independent learners who will be more adept and experienced in managing their own learning.  Pupils will be given the opportunity to complete Entry Level Qualifications (ELQ) and GCSE's
